Wailoa Center will be presenting an exhibit by Raiatea Arcuri, a young emerging artist/photographer who will be showing “Moments of Beauty” in the Fountain Gallery starting today and continuing through Oct. 27.
An artist reception will be held 5-8 p.m. this evening at the Hilo-based gallery. This free, public event is in conjunction with the Big Island Ukulele Guild and Woodworkers Exhibit in the Main Gallery.
Arcuri is a nature photographer born and raised on the Big Island. He started photography three years ago and quickly found a passion for nature photography. He is self-taught, and has captured many photos around the Big Island and continues to do so. Besides nature photography, Arcuri also does portraits, weddings and real estate photography. He is currently attending Hawaii Community College.
“Photography has changed my perspective of the world. Being able to preserve a moment in time brings me fulfillment. What keeps me inspired is the everlasting challenge of creating a unique and interesting photo. I use photography to convey my emotions and experiences to the viewer. Each one of my photographs are carefully composed and processed in the digital darkroom to create my vision of the Big Island,” Arcuri said in a prepared statement.
Wailoa Center is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. During October, the gallery is open on Saturdays from noon to 3 p.m. for Big Island Ukulele Guild special events.
